The two-season HBO hit Flight of the Conchords, which earned Jemaine Clement a surprise Best Actor nomination at this year's Emmys, is officially canceled, the show's stars and director confirm. Their candor is disarming, but the news is a downer. Read the sad statement after the jump.
Per the New Zealand duo's website:
Bret, Jemaine, and James (Bobin, co-creator/director) said "we've noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend, we are today announcing that we won't be returning for a 3rd season. We're very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We'd like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.

A rift may also be to blame, as Clement told Movieline that McKenzie was "one of the humblest, nicest guys in the world. But at the end of a thing like that, I can't stand him more than anyone else. I'm pretty sure it goes both ways." Still, dammit. We were looking forward to Bret's emotional sex-change operation.
