· The Gus Van Sant drama formerly known as Restless began shooting this week in Portland, where Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of Ron, who's co-producing) has joined Henry Hopper (son of Dennis) and Schuyler Fisk (daughter of Sissy Spacek) for the tale of two teens with a possibly unhealthy preoccupation with mortality. (We checked out the script a few months ago.) Watch your back, Mia Wasikowska! It's still early yet, and don't think Rumer Willis isn't ready to go if you aren't pulling your weight as the lead. · The dramatic retelling of the Greenpeace story is on the way, with Jon Turteltaub attached to direct the film as a type of adventure picture in the vein of his National Treasure franchise. Because if there's any rollicking action to be had from shower evasion and/or the rescue of hunted infant harp seals, heaven knows Hollywood will find it. [Variety]
· The violent Toronto curio and cockney-vigilante watershed Harry Brown has found a Stateside buyer, with Samuel Goldwyn picking up the Michael Caine drama for release in 2010. [indieWIRE]
· Congratulations to Emma Watts, who on Thursday finally got 20th Century Fox's production president gig all to herself. She re-upped for a three-year deal after former co-president Alex Young took a producing deal on the lot. [THR]
· Focus Features yesterday sent a press release around reminding the world they're a) consistently profitable and b) releasing six films in 2010, including Noah Baumbach's Greenberg in March, Anton Corbijn's The American in September, and Sofia Coppola's Somewhere on an Oscar-friendly date to be determined.
