Late Night Highlights: Highlander, Blackface, Larry David's DNA Test and Bill Murray Reads

If you missed the maiden voyage of TBS's venture into late night, fear not, because Moveline can sum up the boilerplate Lopez Tonight episode in 10 seconds: "Low Rider" opening song, a few jokes about Lopez's racist abuela or slutty tía, awkward pre-taped or live segment, schtick with a comedian Lopez knows personally, and then, a sometimes-moving musical number. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's take a look at this week's late night moments that were actually worth watching.

Most Reluctant Guest

Like many TBS viewers, Larry David voiced anger, confusion, and regret over his choice to appear on Lopez Tonight, complaining "I'd rather give you a kidney than do this again." Making matters worse, the Curb Your Enthusiasm star agreed to take a DNA test for the show.

Disasters With Animal Segments

A viewer notified Late Night that a Brazilian cockroach from a previous segment had jumped out of its cage on air, unleashing frenzy in the studio audience. The roach was later discovered on set. (Also noteworthy for Jimmy Fallon impression completists: Jason Schwartzman drew out Fallon's Elton John on Storytellers impression.)

Boldest Late Night Reporting: Daily Show Asks Whether Blackface Is Ever OK

Jon Stewart invited his "senior black correspondent" to discuss the legitimacy of blackface, covering the Harry Connick Jr. debacle in Australia last month that had our commenters buzzing. "Here's when blackface is OK: If you have a black face. If you wake up and your black face is smudged on your pillow, it's not OK."

Prophetic Guest Segment Of the Week

Less than 48 hours before ABC officially pulled Hank from its Wednesday night line-up, Kelsey Grammer appeared lackluster on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, discussing the "long shadow" Frasier Crane has cast on his latest television endeavors.

Surprising Dedication To a Reference Most People Won't Get

During last night's Colbert Report, the host summoned the powers and audience of CNN's fallen pundit, Lou Dobbs, in an impressive tribute to the Highlander, complete with sword, lightening effects and cables. Later, in an inventively low-budget segment, Colbert shaved Woody Harrelson's head while singing "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Only Program To Sacrifice a Teddy Bear

After hearing that Sean Hannity had apologized to Jon Stewart for misleading audiences by manipulating the size of a crowd at Rep. Michele Bachman's anti-health care reform rally, the Daily Show host threw a slumber party to catch his name check.

Most Disturbing Homage To Nine

Last night during Penelope Cruz's segment on The Jay Leno Show, the host talked about how much he loves movies with subtitles and demanded Cruz earn her "movie plug" by teaching him how to assume the Lying 'V' as she did in her burlesque scene from Nine.

Bill Murray In Costume!

The Fantastic Mr. Fox star donned renaissance regalia to explain how Paul Shaffer's memoir got him reading again.
