What's On: Mother Country
Unlike the heaping handful of MTV awards ceremonies, the Country Music Association Awards -- or the CMA Awards to whoever does their branding -- unfortunately does not promote itself as an event where anything can happen. Does that mean we won't see Darius Rucker ramble onto the stage when Taylor Swift wins Entertainer of the Year over George Strait? Yes, thankfully. But with last weekend's Saturday Night Live forgoing the eagerly anticipated Kanye-Taylor skit, we can't say it isn't welcome.
The 43rd Annual CMA Awards [8 PM, ABC]
Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood host tonight's ceremony, broadcast live from Nashville. While the CMA Awards is low on spontaneity and humor, it bills a mean concert. Tonight's show includes performances by Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire, Darius Rucker, George Strait, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Vince Gill, Daughtry, Dave Matthews, Kid Rock, Jamey Johnson and Martina McBride. For anyone with money on Nicole Kidman's attendance, CMT airs red carpet footage at 7 PM.
Glee [9 PM, Fox]
Wicked fans will enjoy tonight's episode when Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt (the mystery-sexual Chris Colfer) compete for the chance to perform the play's showstopper, "Defying Gravity." Meanwhile, Sue (Jane Lynch) holds an audition for the Cheerios and Schue (Matthew Morrison) doubts her choice.
Ghost Hunters Academy [10 PM, Syfy]
The rebranded Syfy channel premieres a spin-off of its popular Ghost Hunters reality series tonight. In the Academy edition, previously rumored to be titled Ghost Hunters: College Edition, five undergrad contestants will learn to hunt ghosts under the watchful eyes of experts Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango. The winner will go on to hunt with the actual Ghost Hunters team.
Interview with the Vampire [9:30 PM, Oxygen]
This film was released only 15 years ago but there have been a lot of changes in a decade and a half. "Vampire" is now a career goal for many teenagers, Brad Pitt has a lot of babies, and the Rolling Stones cut "Sympathy for the Devil" has now been ruthlessly exploited so many times to connote an evil character getting away with something that the ending to Interview might seem redundant. While Anne Rice wrote a whole mess of Vampire Chronicles novels, there has only been one unfortunate sequel to this film. If only Lestat was an angsty emo kid in the Pacific Northwest, then there'd be some traction.

Im sure the answer youll get to that is, Oh, because it depended on who the audience for the story was. Ive heard that argument on this site before in defending omissions between one book and the other. But that story? The dead saints or whatever theyre called rising up and going to town to meet and greet people? . . . thats just horrid reporting on the part of the authors of the other books. How could NOT include that little bit of info? Jesus died and went up to heaven . . . oh, and a bunch of dead people got up and walked around downtown.
