TV Bites: Susan Boyle Upstages Dancing

· Poor Aaron Carter, who shed real tears after his elimination on last night's Dancing With the Stars episode, only to be upstaged by a possibly lip-synching Susan Boyle. The Scottish singing sensation and Kathy Geiss inspiration belted out "I Dream a Dream" before returning to her dressing room, where besotted contestant Donny Osmond brought her a bouquet of purple roses and shared a few tender moments: "She knew all of my songs...I sang a song to her and she sang it with me. It was really special."

James Franco can outlast and out-memorize anyone in daytime, Murphy Brown makes the Hall of Fame and more TV Bites after the jump.

· Do not lose anymore sleep over Jeff Zucker's fate at NBC in light of the impending Comcast-General Electric deal. The current NBC Universal CEO will head NBC's new joint venture.

· In the latest Franco update, the performance artist filmed a mind-blowing 65 pages on his first day at General Hospital and "never forgot his lines." The actor's only request to the daytime soap was that "he play an artist who was 'a little off'." No word on whether the graffiti was an improvisational flourish.

· V's record-setting premiere ratings fell 29% last night. CBS won the entire night with its solid Tuesday line-up: NCIS, NCIS: LA and Good Wife. Jay Leno's ratings recovered from Monday night's series low (1.15) with a 1.9 last night.

· The TV Hall of Fame will induct Candice Bergen, the Smothers Brothers and Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry in a January ceremony featuring legendary game show announcer Don Pardo. The Mark Gordon Reality Programming Wing is due to break ground next year.

· CW is trying to reignite the fire in its WB-UPN marriage by giving Smallville a two-hour Justice Society-themed movie event on January 29. The special will feature DC characters Stargirl, Hawkman and Dr. Fate on the grounds that the WB attends a month worth of relationship couseling.

· John Travolta appeared on his first talk show since his son's tragic death last January. On Ellen yesterday, the star talked about his daughter's role in his upcoming film Old Dogs and how he plays tennis "vampire-style."
