Last weekend, Movieline bumped into Alan Cumming at the Savannah Film Festival. He's not only on the festival's advisory board, he gave a master class to students at Savannah College of Art and Design (which hosts the festival), advising them to, among other things, "always wear a condom." And then he imparted his favorite movie scene:
"The scene in Waiting for Guffman when Corky asks for $100,000 from the town council for the production. It's so hilarious but so heartbreaking. I love that film, it's genius how the tone [works]. So easily, those things can just be a parody and take the piss out of these people. It does that hugely but at the same time, you can see how much it's costing him to ask. Then he goes off with this big speech and calls them 'bastard people!'"
