Twilight Re-Release to Round Out New Moon Circus

Summit Entertainment has reportedly been hashing out plans to re-release Twilight in theaters on Nov. 18 -- a one-night-only event that would precede New Moon's midnight showings in the wee hours of Nov. 19. That would result in roughly a five-hour hostile tween takeover of America's multiplexes, which exhibitors seem to be just fine with.

This seems like a slightly risky move in a way. While the Twi-hards will generally swallow whole anything their Summit masters toss their way, putting Catherine Hardwicke's swoony global phenomenon up directly against Chris Weitz's soapy, goofy-looking sequel would call that much more attention to New Moon's inferiority -- if it is indeed inferior, which, let's be honest, a lot of fans are anticipating despite themselves. It's probably overreaching to foretell any kind of backlash within their ranks that early in the game, but if anything could do it, this strategy might be it. Still, Summit, while you're at it, no one would call cynicism on a Hurt Locker re-release if you wanted to prime Kathryn Bigelow's deserving film for awards season. Just saying.
