$360,578,644. That's how much the first Alvin and the Chipmunks made worldwide, so before you go dismissing the viability of turning a trio of helium-huffing woodland rodents into marketable movie stars, keep that figure in mind.
That said, here's the trailer for part deux, titled Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, in which Jason Lee reprises his role of their perpetually aggravated talent manager and guardian, Dave. This time around, Alvin puts his letterman sweater to good use, playing big chipmunk on campus as his brothers prove unlikely heroes of the playing field. Also promised is "one big surprise," which hopefully isn't a cameo by Richard Gere. We only wish we could slow this thing down to 33⅓ and savor Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney's voicework in its raw state.
The Two-Minute Verdict: Glue traps at the ready.
