Zach Galifianakis Considers Mental Ward For A Funny Story

zach_robe_short.jpg

· Zach Galifianakis is in talks to join It's Kind of a Funny Story, the next feature in development from Half Nelson filmmakers Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. The book adaptation would feature Galifiankis as an institutionalized man who befriends a young man accidentally assigned to the adult ward of a mental institution. And, of course, ride its gold-flecked Greek god to a number-one opening as per new Zach G. custom. Congratulations in advance. [THR]

Galifianakis won't be appearing in the Hangover ripoff coming from Jay Chandrasekhar, Spider-Man 4 gets a release date, and more Hollywood Ink after the jump.

· Broken Lizard member Jay Chandrasekhar will direct Shotgun Wedding, about "an avowed bachelor who suddenly calls his friends to join him on a weekend trip for his wedding." Sugar Ray Leonard is rumored to be in talks to play the retired boxer whose jungle cat the men steal on a drunken binge. [Variety]

· Spider-Man 4 is coming at you in glorious fake IMAX as well as in conventional theaters on May 5, 2011. [THR]

· Shonda Rhimes will co-produce an adaptation for Miramax of Bitch is the New Black, political correspondent Helena Andrews's satirical memoir of young and successful black women on the move in Washington, D.C. [Variety]

· With formerly attached Peter Berg currently blowing up Universal's Battleship, that leaves DreamWorks to make the unusual choice of hiring comedy kingpin Shawn Levy to take on its futuristic robot-boxing thriller Real Steel.

Shotgun Wedding might have been greenlit because it sounds, as Mad Men said so perfectly, "derivative with a twist." But it was written at least two years ago! I know because I read it as an intern at an unnamed talent agency. Srsly.
