If Conan's Set Was Secretly Super Mario World, What's Jay's?

Back in June, the internet exploded after TV watchers discovered that the design of Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show set could easily double for a particularly exciting level of Super Mario World. Now that we've seen the expensive, desk-less set of The Jay Leno Show, does it instantly bring to mind anything?

Our illustrated answer after the jump:

Yes, there's just something about Leno's awkward setup and suitcase-resembling end tables that screams "airport lounge," an unusually zeitgeist-y choice considering the imminent arrival of George Clooney's buzzed-about Up in the Air. Is Clooney's frequent traveler there to downsize Leno, should the need arise? Jeff Zucker's got you on notice, Jay!

    That's funny. I concur.

Nice work! If I could tweak it a smidge, I think it looks like the lounge of a Ramada near the airport, if not an actual airport lounge...

    Perfect!

It reminds me of Tom Snyders last set.

Speaking of...........what has Jay done (or NOT done to his hair) He needs a haircut!!!!!(imo)

This is not the Jay one would see at his garage. Why the pretentious set and background with two soft sofa chairs where Jay and his guest set with crossed legs in tuxedo and business suits with tie? At the more casual time of 10:00 o'clock, why not be more casual? Remember, at this hour, the younger generation is more apt to be watching. They're not looking for sophistication. Go back to the couch where the guests can jump and climb all over it. Can you imagine a python slithering in a big soft sofa chair?

    Jay----
Sorry NEED THE DESK! And where is Ross?? I worked it out I tape you and play your show in YOUR TIME SLOT!!!! Sorry but a test pattern is funnier than Conan.
    Lov ya
I think its a rent a car waiting room in the airport.

I have waiting for Jay's show to begin. I will admit that so far he has not been as funny as when he performed the last few weeks of the Tonight Show. But, let's give him a chance to get his feet on the ground. Even if he isn't quite up to par, he is certainly a lot funnier than Conan. I didn't watch Conan when he followed Jay. I think NBC has made a big mistake in taking a great show with such a great history and giving it to someone who only performs silly humor. The Tonight Show with Jay was for grownups. Conan is almost too silly for children who, by the way, should be in bed by the time he is on TV.

I still can't see what Zucker was thinking. Jay's time slot was the Tonight Show. I'd DVR Jay's new show and watch it in the right time slot but the formula has been over worked and the new show seems to be trying too hard to be different. Conan O'Brian is just not funny to anyone over 12 and I didn't care what happened after the Tonight Show was over. Yes, NBC has just given up. I'm back to watching Dave.

With Jay's old set, it was like an old friend - so cozy and familiar - we LOVED it... but the new set just does not work at all - and its not a matter of getting used to it - it will never happen!! It is extremely cold-feeling, very long and narrow and Kevin is way to far away. The chairs make everybody seem so uncomfortable, especially Jay. Why can't he at least have his desk? From the other comments, we guess we are not alone - plus, what is up with his hair? it looks ridiculous!! (but we still love Jay)...

Maybe it's not so great, but every other set on late night talk show tv was far better than that old set of Jay's. It looked like a five year old colored it with every color of the rainbow. Kind of like candy land. It was an embarrassment to think that this was what was supposed to represent LA. Frankly even the joke version shown here with the runway actually wouldn't look so bad as a backdrop.
