Oprah's New Favorite Thing: Reformed Junkie, Whitney Houston
Next week's two-day season premiere of The Oprah Winfrey Show should prove once and for all that Winfrey is at least one quarter divine power. Yesterday, Forbes's wealthiest talk show host shut down Chicago's main artery so that thousands of her fans could perform a choreographed dance to "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas. (It's not like Michigan Avenue was going to be used for any Chicago Cubs World Series parades.) And in her most stunning feat yet, Oprah conducted a "no-holds barred" conversation with Whitney Houston that Winfrey has already touted "the best interview I've ever done."
In spite of Houston's underwhelming Good Morning America performance last week, her long-awaited comeback album, I Look To You still debuted at Number 1. Oprah's looped promos for Houston's most honest interview yet certainly helped Houston top the charts and earn Houston the "biggest first week sales of her career."
Winfrey commented on the pre-taped interview, which will air on Monday, September 14, on her website:
"My approach to this interview was to not be judgmental in any way, and not to go in trying to get her to say things to make a 'moment.'"
"I just wanted to be able to have an honest conversation with her. One woman to another woman. And the day of the interview, I literally prayed about that all day long. I just wanted a connection between the two of us. And that is what happened. And that is why I believe it's one of the most, if not the most, powerful interviews I've ever done."
Tuesday's episode is being billed as The Oprah Winfrey Show: Season Premiere Part II: Whitney Houston's Show-Stopping Surprise, in which Houston performs such an emotional version of "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," that Winfrey tweeted afterward: "In search of ceiling repairmen. Cause Whitney just BLEW THE ROOF off of Harpo. Grown men and women weeping in the aisles."

If Ms Miller was underwhelmed by Whitney GMA performance, Too bad for her. I saw the segment and was very happy to see Whitney looking healthy and sounding good. She's still one of the best pop vocalist
around. I love her and have missed her...so glad she's back and the few songs I've heard from the new album, says maybe the old whitney is back. Hooray
Really, Oprah? The "Most Powerful"? Out of all of the political figures you have interviewed? People who are actually working to change the world for the better?
