Kathy Griffin's Autobiography Namedrops Bulimia and Speed

Sometime before Kathy Griffin made a career of tipping boxes of wine for her 89-year-old mother on Bravo, she had to establish herself in Hollywood using age-old tricks of the trade, like drugs. With her new autobiography Official Book Club Selection, the My Life on the D List star's confessional writing veers into descriptions of drug abuse, which better not be a vicious lie if she's baiting Oprah. Griffin also fesses up to a number of dramatic attempts to lose weight as a young comedian on the make. Speed, a near-death experience with liposuction, and a major eating disorder all spring up -- accompanied by punchlines.

On her use of speed after she found diet pills, day-long aerobics classes, and bulimia insufficient:

"I am very proud of my two weeks on speed... It was full-on illegal speed. I took it to lose weight, which is not very smart... I just felt three times as hungry afterward."

On the liposuction that physically scarred and almost killed her, accompanied by photos of her post-surgery condition:

"I want women to know that this is what lipo looks like. Like, are you sure you don't want to just work out a little more?"

On plastic surgery:

"I was told repeatedly, 'You would be pretty if it weren't for that nose. You'd work more if it weren't for that nose. Hey have you considered getting a nose job?' You would think I had a nose the size of Texas. I was young and impressionable and I was told that enough that I started to believe it, so I got a nose job."

Now, when will she cop to that Young Christopher Walken addiction?

During my early twenties, I once confided to Kathy Griffin about my temporary acne problem and it's effects on my insecurity levels.
So glad I shared with someone who knows how to keep a secret.

I get the feeling you are a moustached, morbidly obese high school lunch lady who begrudgingly serves meatloaf with a side of broken dreams.

Love Kathy and can't wait to read the book. Hope the signing in NY next week isn't mobbed (though I'm sure it will be).

I happen to like KG. She's funny, smart, and can work her way across any topic for a laugh. If she can get the point across about the stupid things she did when she was trying to make a name for herself, and then get a laugh for it, she may keep some people's mind (you have to have one to understand this) on the mistakes and help them NOT make the same ones as she did. Go Kathy!

the funny thing to me is i have the strangest feeling that 'kathy' is really a martin short character...i've never seen them together at any celebrity or comedy function...it's his most annoying character so far...

I heard the voice of Isabella Rossellini.

I feel badly for her, she should have known that you can't lose weight from doing speed for two weeks, it takes much longer.
