Report: Disney to Acquire Marvel for $4 Billion
The gang at Marvel HQ might not have thought they'd ever have a better Monday than the one last year after Iron Man opened to $100 million. Today is at least 40 times better, with reports this morning announcing Disney has bought the comics monolith for $4 billion.
In turn, Disney would acquire more than 5,000 Marvel characters and properties including Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, the X-Men, Captain America and others. It would also inherit Marvel's long-term deal with Paramount (which received an extension last fall) as well as more a la carte relationships with Universal, Sony and Fox. The dynamics of each situation will sound out in the months ahead, as will I presume the burgeoning Marvel theme-park industry. Wow, Marvel, Tron 2, the Miyazaki films - is Disney getting hip or what? I can't wait to hear the news that they've acquired the rights to David Gordon Green's next three stoner films.
Now, if only they can get rid of those stupid shows - Hannah Montana, Zeke and Luthor, Suite Life, Cory in the House. None of those shows are educational nor entertaining!!!
