Jewish Sesame Street Spin-Off Adds Jake Gyllenhaal and Cedric the Entertainer for Some Reason

Shalom Sesame: 1. It's a real show. 2. I know. 3. It's an awesome, 12-part spin-off of Sesame Street that teaches Jewish children about their heritage and culture, with the help of predictable celebrities like Jake Gyllenhaal, Christina Applegate, Ben Stiller, Debra Messing, and Cedric the Entertainer. Since it's set to air at the tail end of 2010, Shalom Sesame still has plenty of time to garner enough publicity to force a statement from Madonna saying that it's just safer if she runs this whole thing. Ready for an education, Schlomo?

This incarnation of Shalom Sesame is actually a reboot of two miniseries from 1986 and 1990, except certain aspects have been altered for the new run. (For instance: Studies show that kids today respond violently to Bonnie Franklin and Tracey Gold.) The clip below is from the 1990 series, as an effortlessly expressive Joan Rivers (stay with me) explains to a clay pot how it came to be. Ah, the power of claymation, giving life's last-living saber-toothed tiger the undulating eyebrows and lips of a standard biped. Mazel tov!

So, it's like Passover except for the underage drinking?

    • Deef says:

Are you trying to say Jake Gyllenhaal isn't Jewish? Wouldn't that make you racist and a liar (a racist liar), since Gyllenhaal IS Jewish?

I've seen some of the characters, and Oscar the Mohel will really catch on with kids.

  • Kittenhead says:

Speaking as a lapsed Catholic, lemme say you don't need to be Jewish to enjoy getting high and watching this.

  • brubie says:

    Jake Gyllenhaal is Jewish.

  • The savior says:

Seseme Street was always intended to promote childrens education.
    Making
t fun to learn math and spelling, is it fair to use federal tax dollars to promote one religion over another?

Has an American public learning institution that was intented to apeal to all faiths or non faith families been hijacked?

No problem if you want to by a DVD to share your religion with your family.

But is it fair to Christians who once made up 86% of the nation to promote one religion over another.

This is also a painful reminder to all to those who asked for our savior to be put to death. Maybe this is why we no longer teach religion in our public schools? Or have the rules changed just for some of us.
