The synergy desk at News Corp. must have been closed this morning when MySpace decided to pull down a Fangoria cover promoting Jennifer's Body -- sister company Fox's great white hope for early fall. The site's hilarious reasoning (and the offending image) is after the jump.
You'll remember that Fangoria was the first to expose readers to the true scope of the horror in Jennifer's Body, starting earlier this month with Megan Fox's 99-Cent-Store dental prostheses. The editors made an even more ostensibly fearsome Fox their September cover girl, planting a sneak preview of the magazine (below) on Fangoria's MySpace account.
Then, last night, either a mischievous reader or especially by-the-book administrator flagged the image as inappropriate. MySpace passed along an explanation shortly thereafter, some of you may know it well (pervs!), but just in case:
We had to remove an image (or images from your account because they violated our terms of use. Our site is for people as young as 13, so we can't have certain kinds of pics (nude/sexually explicit, violence). [...] If you continue to violate our Terms, we may be forced to remove your account.
If you find an image which you feel is in violation of our Terms, please feel free to use the 'report image' link below the image.
Thanks for your understanding.
MySpace Safety and Security
No, MySpace, thank you. While the Fox image would clearly violate virtually any discriminating site's Terms of Holy Christ That's Too Cheesy to Publish, I don't recall violence, sexuality or other adult themes being a problem last spring when MySpace premiered red-band trailers for Bruno or The Hangover, or when it agreed (grudgingly, I'm sure) to run a first-look image of Jackie Earle Haley as the hideously burned serial killer Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Of course, this could also be the work of a savvy Fangoria insider attempting to drum up sales for the new issue. I doubt it, but there's only one way to find out: Does anyone out there want to "feel free to use the 'report image' link below the image" when that first Krueger premieres in a little while? Either way, innocent 13-year-olds all over the Web await your help!
