Ed McMahon Dead at 86
Sad news out of Los Angeles, where Ed McMahon passed away early this morning at 86. The erstwhile Tonight Show sidekick, Publishers Clearing House American Family Publishers spokesman and amateur rapper had been suffering from pneumonia since February; another report this morning cited a source close to McMahon who said he'd been battling bone cancer recently as well. A few favorite video recollections -- and your condolences -- after the jump.
Crank the volume in get in a few last "hiyooooo"s...
And look back on the way we love to remember Big Ed -- not as the foreclosed-upon Cash4Gold mascot of late, but as the delightfully tipsy foil perennially at Johnny Carson's right hand:
Rest in peace, sir.

His epitaph to read: "Here lies Ed McMahon. He might already have been a winner."
hiyooo, indeed.
hiyooo, indeed.
In the heavens, may he find the biggest star of all.
He gave second bananas a good name.
Let the last leg of his life be a lesson to us all in completely irresponsible money management. RIP Ed.
RIP Ed McMahon. The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon is timeless Americana. Let us also not forget that Ed McMahon was the host of the Star Search game show, which was really the original American Idol if you think about it.
Ed McMahon seemed like an extremely decent fellow; RIP
Tamed it how? She's owned it for 30 years, so she tamed it from what she had initially made it? Her husband and daughter are the two head writers of the shit - it's been "tamed" only in the last two years when the started to get the political bug.
