Antichrist Video Game a Welcome Addition to the First-Person Genital-Mutilator Genre
Antichrist, the notorious, penis-lopping Cannes sensation from provoc-auteur Lars Von Trier, is being adapted into a video game, reports Slashfilm after painstakingly running a Danish news item through Google Translate.
The basics:
· The game will be called Eden, and will be developed by the same man who brought you the Hitman series.
· It's a first-person thriller that "invites players to confront their fears."
· Willem Dafoe will reprise his role in voiceover.
· The makers promise it will be "strong and very personal," "controversial" and that it "...must be your own personal hell - a bit like a nightmare version of 'Myst'."
What's most amazing about this, beyond that this is probably the first Euro sado-arthouse flick to be adapted into a video game since 1989's ill-fated The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover for the Sega Master System?
The fact that the success of Eden could end in a movie adaptation of it -- resulting, in effect, in the highly unusual circumstance of a Uwe Boll-helmed remake of a Lars Von Trier film.
