Kathy And Lily And Liza And Jane Make Conference Call History

I took another hit from the reality show crack-pipe that is Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List last night. And there was Kathy, tending her wounds after being mistaken for Melissa Rivers outside the Staples center just moments after learning she'd been nominated for a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. It seemed as good a time as any to get out of the country, so the comedian jetted off to Richmond, B.C., where she was given the Royal Canadian Beaver Queen treatment by hotel staff.

As luck would have it, Lily Tomlin was performing there, and Kathy maximized the opportunity by grilling her about whether or not she'd ever had experiences with the opposite sex (I guess that means Lily's out?) -- to which Lily admitted to having a thing for Steve Martin. Then we learned a bit about her legendary flip-out on the set of David O. Russell's I Heart Huckabees. Finally, in her greatest coup, Griffin convinces Lily to call her A-list friends Jane Fonda and Liza Minnelli. Jane bluntly responds that her Klute co-star Donald Sutherland was "my lover for a while" after Kathy prods her by asking, "Did you ever get a little crush on him?" But the ever-ebullient Liza steals the show, always gracious to a fault, even on tenterhooks waiting to make an SNL cameo. (The cameo was an instant classic, in which she burst into Penelope's group therapy session and said, "Tomato and I wanna hit the town! Girls night out -- Sex and the City-style!")
