Movieline Exclusive: Paul Scheer's Field Report From the Set of Piranha 3-D

As I mentioned yesterday, actor/comedian/raconteur Paul Scheer -- who through the years has delighted us with his humorous observations on Best Week Ever, angered us by bullying Kenneth the Page on 30 Rock, and elicited an array of other emotions via projects too numerous to go into here -- has been busily shooting Piranha 3-D on location at Lake Havasu, AZ.

This is a project I am keenly anticipating, what with it coming from the deliriously twisted mind of French horreur wunderkind Alexandre Aja, and starring a formidable cast which includes Mr. Scheer, Elisabeth "Pipes" Shue, Richard Dreyfuss, the inimitable Adam Scott, two girls in bikinis enjoying each other's cleavage, and, of course, thousands of bloodthirsty 3-D fish. We asked Paul to send us a set report. And he did!

I can't send you any of my personal pictures because it's a copyright thing, but as you can see from one of the shots I look smoking hot in a red bikini.

These shots were taken last week in the channel in front of the London Bridge Resort in Lake Havasu, AZ. In the film Jerry O'Connell and I are from a company called Wild, Wild, Girls and we have docked our yacht in the fictional Lake Victoria Channel and two of our models (Riley Steele and Kelly Brook) are performing for a rowdy crowd of spring breakers.

Other than that the pirahna have been incredibly cool. I had heard they were slightly stuck up, but they have been really nice to me.

The one odd thing about doing a 3-D movie is that the crew has to wear those 3-D glasses at all times.

If you have questions, let me know.

I have many! What's Richard Dreyfuss like? How can you stand doing scenes opposite Jerry O'Connell when he looks so damn fine in a red Speedo? What sorts of Method exercises do you do to really believe you're seeing 3-D Piranhas coming at you?

If you have questions, post them in the comments, and we'll see if we can get Paul to answer them. In the meantime, follow Paul at his blog, PaulScheer.com.

Question: To make her role as Sheriff Julie Forester in Piranha 3-D more believable, did Elisabeth Shue seek inspiration from buffed iconic law enforcement actors Chuck Norris and/or Steven Seagal?

  • Excellent blog. Kudos a lot. For sure, sometimes it is perceived as you're entering into the cyber-breezes…. then, an individual may leave a remark that basically connects someone to the outside world you now know you will be in a community.
