Michael Douglas Hands Gordon Gekko's Iconic Whip and Fedora To Shia LaBeouf in Wall Street 2

We've known for some time now that Oliver Stone would be revisiting the world of Wall Street in Wall Street 2: Gekko Rising. (Not the title to my knowledge, but might work nicely as one.) Beyond that, however, little was known of the plot, aside from the fact that the sequel would feature at least one scene in which Michael Douglas lifts a brick-sized carless-car-phone to his ear and shouts, "Buy! Sell! Sell then buy then sell!" to no one in particular. Now, Deadline Hollywood Daily has the inside track on several key details about the mysterious production: Shia LaBeouf has indeed signed on, as has a swarthy Oscar winner. Read on for plot spoilers.

Set to start shooting in mid-August with a planned February release, the plot begins in June 2008 and ends around the time of the federal bailout. We begin with a 21-years-older Gordon Gekko, who's served out his sentencing and is warning anyone who'll listen that the End is Nigh. DHD reports:

Shia is a young Wall Street trader who's engaged to be married to Gekko's estranged daughter. Shia wants to be a major player, but his mentor unexpectedly kills himself, and Shia thinks a stock-shorting worldwide hedge fund manager is responsible. Shia seeks revenge on this villain, to be played by No Country For Old Men Supporting Actor Oscar-winner Javier Bardem. So Shia goes to Gordon saying, "I need your help", and makes a Faustian deal with Gekko who in return wants Shia's help getting back with the daughter. From then on, it's "antagonism" for everyone, my insider says.

The deceit! The intrigue! The machinations! The guy-with-the-thick-Spanish-accent telling the little-punk-from-the-toy-robot-movie where he can shove his blistering expose about junk-mortgage-backed securities! It's on. If we have any money left in early 2010, we're spending it on a ticket to this and a large bag of popcorn.
