It's time for the latest installment of Movieline's One-Page Screenplay, the project meant to revolutionize the movie industry, mainly by reducing script coverage to a Twitter-surmounting two words (examples: "Is good." "Will Smith?" "Harvey hates"). Today, we've got a contribution from the writing duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who breathed life into the upcoming "zom-com" Zombieland.
Reese and Wernick know a thing or two about creating compelling alternate worlds -- after getting their start on the reality-tweaking Joe Schmo Show, they've since scripted Venom and Earth vs. Moon -- and we think you'll agree that the setting of One Small Step is their most fantastic yet. Enjoy!
The Official Bio:
Rhett Reese, writer and producer, and Paul Wernick, Emmy Award-winning producer and writer, bring their immeasurable talents to the big screen with the feature screenplay Zombieland. The duo first sold the story of Zombieland as a spec pilot to CBS, but the film's producer recognized they had the makings of a major motion picture and took it to Sony for feature development. Reese and Wernick both wrote and executive-produced the film, and were involved in the production from conception to final cut, including being on set.
In 2008, Reese and Wernick sold their original feature pitch Earth vs. Moon to Universal Pictures. They are slated to write and executive-produce the sci-fi epic war movie. Building on their feature successes, the pair was hired to pen the Spider-Man spinoff Venom for Sony Pictures and Marvel Comics. Reese and Wernick created, wrote, and executive-produced The Joe Schmo Show for Spike TV in 2003.
Wernick has produced several network reality shows, and has won three Emmy Awards for his work in news. Reese has written screenplays for Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Pictures, Nickelodeon, Universal Pictures, Warner Brothers, and Sony Pictures, among others.
Reese and Wernick have collaborated since their high school days together in Phoenix, beginning with a sugar-cube mock-up of Stonehenge in ninth grade. Having had great success across genres and mediums ranging from reality, comedy and drama television, to sci-fi, horror and comedy features, they plan to further produce and direct.
